Mike Enslin (John Cusack) is a cynical author of cheap paranormal travel guides. He debunks haunted hotels and ghost stories, not believing in the supernatural. One day, he receives an anonymous postcard warning him to avoid Room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel in New York. Intrigued, he books the room despite the hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson) desperately warning him that no one has lasted more than an hour inside. Once Mike enters 1408, the rational world crumbles as he is trapped in a nightmarish, mind-bending loop of terror.
