Archicad Sample Projects Work Page
| Limitation | Recommendation | |------------|----------------| | Sample projects lack real-world structural analysis data. | Integrate with structural add-ons (e.g., SCIA or SAF). | | Some regional library parts may be missing (non-US versions). | Download local library packages from Graphisoft’s BIMcomponents portal. | | Renovation sample does not include phasing beyond existing/demo/new. | Build custom phased renovation model based on local practice. |
ArchiCAD sample projects are pre-built, fully functional BIM models that ship with the software. They are not simple “demos” or screenshots; they are living .PLN or .BIM files containing walls, slabs, roofs, zones, sections, details, schedules, and layouts.
Graphisoft provides these files to demonstrate best practices. The most famous examples include: archicad sample projects work
One of the best ways to see how ArchiCAD sample projects work is to watch the documentation update in real-time. In a blank file, creating a section is manual. In a sample project, sections are pre-cut.
The purpose of this report is to document the process, findings, and educational outcomes from working with ArchiCAD’s built-in sample projects. Sample projects serve as reference models for BIM methodology, software training, and quality assurance checks. Most new users look at the geometry of a sample project
| Mistake | What the Sample Project Teaches |
| --- | --- |
| Modeling everything on one layer | Open the Layer Settings. See 50+ layers. Learn hierarchy. |
| Using only the default renovation filter | Look at a wall in "Demolition" phase. See the dashed red line. Copy that filter. |
| Placing dimensions directly on the model | Dimensions in samples are in the A-Anno-Dimensions layer, separate from geometry. |
| Exporting single views to PDF one by one | Open Publisher Set. See how 50 sheets export in one command. |
Most new users look at the geometry of a sample project. Professionals look at the Attributes: Action Step: Open any sample project
Action Step: Open any sample project. Go to Options > Attributes. Don’t look at the 3D view. Look at the list of Composites, Surfaces, and Profiles. That list is the secret sauce.
Advanced users know that sample projects contain “secret” lessons. Here is what to look for:
If you only open one sample project, open the Reno House (or the equivalent in your local version).
