Based on a true story, Dangal follows Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan), a former national champion wrestler forced by circumstances (and a patriarchal society) to give up his gold medal dreams. He vows to have a son who will win the medal for India.

Disheartened, he almost gives up until his eldest daughters, Geeta and Babita, accidentally beat up two boys. Realizing that talent has no gender, Mahavir transforms his daughters into world-class wrestlers. The film chronicles their grueling journey from the mud pits of Haryana to the gold medal mat at the Commonwealth Games.
