This is where the trivia gets tricky for fans.

In Season 4, Michael is not breaking out of a prison, but rather breaking into one (and then out again) to retrieve Scylla. While he infiltrates The Company's headquarters, these don't typically count as "prison breaks" in the traditional sense.

However, there is a debate among fans regarding his second stint in Sona. At the start of Season 4, we learn that Michael actually escaped from Sona off-screen during a prison riot to get back to the US. While we don't see the mechanics of that escape, it technically counts as a successful exit.

But if we are counting distinct locations where we watched him engineer the primary escape:

Before Ogygia, Michael was held in Tartarus—a brutal, high-security prison inside a cave system. This is where Michael met the terrorist Abu Ramal, who helped him escape in exchange for future services.

Why it’s top-tier:
Even though it's shown in a flashback, the breakout is classic Scofield. He realized the chapel’s floor was rotting due to leaking pipes from an underground river. By ripping a chandelier from the ceiling and using it as a grappling hook, he and Ramal climbed into the water system.

Key Houdini moment: Michael calculated water flow volume by watching a cockroach float past. Yes, really.
