Subject: Methods to reset the Canon PIXMA MG2540S printer
Target Audience: End-users and basic technicians

Use this when the printer is unresponsive or shows minor errors.

This is the simplest method and solves 90% of minor glitches.

When you refill a PG-745 or CL-746 cartridge, the printer still thinks it's empty. Here is the manual "button dance" to override this.

The Sequence:

Did it work? Try to print a test page. If the printer accepts the cartridge, you are done. If the orange light still flashes 7 or 16 times, the cartridge chip is locked permanently. In that case, you need a chip resetter device (sold on Amazon/eBay) or new cartridges.

Use only if you see error 5B00 or 5B01 (waste ink pad full). This requires entering service mode.

⚠️ This bypasses the waste ink counter, but the physical pads may still overflow. Canon does not recommend this for repeated use.
