Many new owners are confused when they press the AM/FM button on their IC-725 and nothing happens. That's because these modes were optional! You need the Icom UI-7 unit installed internally to unlock them. What it does: Adds FM mode (great for 10-meter FM). Adds AM mode for transmit and receive.
