"Izgubljeni raj" (eng. "Paradise Lost") je epski pjesma Johna Miltona, objavljena 1667. godine. Djelo se sastoji iz 12 knjiga i napisano je u blankom stihu. Pjesma pripovijeda o padu čovjeka i izgonu iz Raja, te o sukobu između Dobra i Zla.

O pjesmi

"Izgubljeni raj" je jedna od najvažnijih pjesama engleske književnosti i jedna od najvećih epskih pjesama svih vremena. Djelo je inspirirano kršćanskim naukama i Biblijom, posebice Knjigom postanka i Knjigom Job.

Sadržaj

Pjesma počinje sa scene u paklu, gdje se Soton i njegovi pristaše, nakon što su izgnani iz neba, savjetuju o tome kako nauditi Bogu. Soton odlučuje da će se sakriti u pustinji i čekati pravi trenutak za djelovanje.

U međuvremenu, u nebu, Bog i njegovi anđeli razgovaraju o čovjeku i njegovoj budućoj sudbini. Bog odlučuje da će stvoriti čovjeka i dati mu slobodnu volju, upozoravajući ga na posljedice neposlušnosti.

U šestoj knjizi, pjesma prelazi na priču o stvaranju svijeta i čovjeka, Adama i Eve. Ona također opisuje život u raju i iskušenja koja su Adam i Eva morali predučiti.
