The JL381A runs on the ArubaOS-CX operating system. This modern, fully programmable OS is designed for high reliability and security.

Even with the correct hardware, firmware issues arise:

Step 1: Download the .swi file from the Aruba portal to your local desktop.

Step 2: Access the JL381A web GUI (default IP may be 192.168.1.1 or as set by your DHCP server).

Step 3: Navigate to Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade. jl381a firmware

Step 4: Click "Browse" and select the downloaded .swi file.

Step 5: Click "Upgrade." The switch will upload the file, verify its checksum, and write it to the primary flash partition.

Step 6: Wait. This takes 3-5 minutes. Do NOT refresh the page or unplug the switch.
