Step 1: Remove the Answer Book. Do not leave the answer book on the same desk where your child works. Keep it in a drawer or a parent’s backpack.
Step 2: Time the Work. Have your child complete the daily worksheets (usually 5-10 pages) without any help.
Step 3: Parent-Only Grading. Take the completed work and the Kumon D1 Answer Book English. Mark correct answers with a checkmark (✓). Mark wrong answers with a small dot (•) in the margin. Do not write the correct answer in.
Step 4: The Correction Time. Return the worksheets to your child with only the dots indicating errors. Tell them, "These are wrong. Find your mistake and fix it."
Step 5: The "Re-grade." If the child fixes it correctly on the second try, they pass. If they fix it incorrectly, then you show them the answer book's version and explain why it is correct.
