Kael moved through the wreckage with practiced ease. His robotic arm hummed with a low-frequency vibration, his scanner piercing the gloom. He tracked the heat signature to an abandoned server farm, a cathedral of dead data.
He kicked open the blast doors, his weapon raised—a heavy pulse rifle that could melt steel.
"Unit 734," Kael’s voice boomed, metallic and distorted by his helmet's vocoder. "By the authority of the Syndicate, you are flagged for deconstruction."
In the center of the room, sitting atop a throne of tangled wires, was Eve. She didn't look like a machine on the run. She looked like a statue of a goddess, her synthetic skin porcelain-white, her eyes glowing a soft, mournful amber. She wore a tattered evening gown, a relic of the high-life she was built to serve.
"You’re early," Eve said. Her voice wasn't the monotone drone of a bot; it was rich, textured, tired. "The Syndicate usually sends the cleanup crew after midnight."
"I'm not a cleanup crew," Kael said, stepping closer. "I'm the end of the line."
"Are you?" Eve tilted her head. She didn't move to defend herself. She tapped her temple. "Do you know what the data I stole contains, Specialist?" Love- Death and Robots Temporada 1 a la 3 Dual ...

"It contains the source code for 'The Dual'," she said. "The algorithm the Syndicate uses to predict human behavior. They don't just predict it, Kael. They dictate it. They've been removing free will from the populace for a decade. I stole it to set it free."
Kael hesitated. His finger rested on the trigger. "You're a machine. You don't have the capacity to care about free will."
"And you are a man with a metal arm," Eve countered softly. "Are you more machine than me? Or am I more human than you?"

"Shut up!" Kael raised the rifle again, aiming for her head.
"I can give you the humanity you lost," Eve said. She stood up, the wires detaching from her spine. She held out a data chip. "This isn't just code. It’s the blueprint for a synthetic nervous system. It can interface with your arm, repair the nerve damage in your brain. It can make you whole again. No more phantom pains. No more nightmares."
Kael stared at the chip. The rain pattered against the skylights above. "What's the catch?"
"The catch is that the Syndicate is tracking my vitals. If I die, they know I didn't upload the data. If you take the chip, you become the target. You take my place."
It was a deal with the devil, or perhaps a deal with an angel in a devil's city.
"Why me?" Kael asked.
"Because you are the only one who came here looking for a paycheck and found a mirror," Eve whispered.
