The Magicsee R1 comes pre-rooted on most firmware versions. You will see the SuperSU or Magisk app in the drawer. Do not update the SU binary via Google Play – it may break the root. Only use root for ad-blocking or backup tools.
Enable:
Settings → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources → Allow

You have two options for connectivity:
Wi-Fi:
Ethernet: For the most stable streaming experience, plug an Ethernet cable directly into the unit (if your specific model has an LAN port). It should auto-connect without setup. | Purpose | App | Notes | |---------|-----|-------|
The R1’s selling point is 8K decode support (24/30fps). The best player is Kodi or Nova Video Player.
To install Kodi on Magicsee R1:
Hardware Acceleration Settings in Kodi (Crucial): The Magicsee R1 comes pre-rooted on most firmware versions
Without these, 4K/8K videos will software decode and stutter.
