Download the official QGIS installers from the QGIS project’s downloads page. Choose the installer that matches your operating system:

  • Choose destination folder (default: C:\Program Files\QGIS 3.26).
  • Click Install.
  • After completion, you will find QGIS Desktop 3.26 in your Start Menu.

    • This is the critical question. While you can download and use QGIS 3.26 today, consider the following:

    The file downloaded quickly.

    "Now," Maya said, hovering over the icon, "Before you double-click, close QGIS."

    "Because if the program is running, the installer won't be able to overwrite the old files, and the installation will fail halfway through."

    Jordan closed the old software. They ran the installer.

    "No," Maya smiled. "The standalone installer is great because it’s a 'kitchen sink' package. It includes Python, the GRASS tools, and the SAGA processing algorithms automatically. You don't need to download anything else."

    If you decide to remove QGIS 3.26 after a new download:

    Apple users have two choices: a standard .dmg file or via Homebrew. To get version 3.26 specifically:

    Method A: Direct DMG from Archive

    Method B: Homebrew (Advanced)
    If you have Homebrew installed, you can run:
    brew install qgis@3.26
    However, this requires tapping the osgeo4mac repository.

    Note for macOS users: Apple’s Gatekeeper may block the app. If you see a warning that QGIS "can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer," right-click the app and select "Open," then confirm.
