Realvnc Offline License — Key

If you need to activate RealVNC on machines that are completely isolated from the internet (air-gapped networks, secure environments, or legacy systems), you cannot use standard online activation. Instead, you must use an Offline License Key.

Using offline keys does not make RealVNC more or less secure from a encryption standpoint. However, consider these points:

If you cannot obtain a genuine offline key or find the cost prohibitive, consider these alternatives:

| Software | Offline Licensing | Open Source? | Best for | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | TigerVNC | Yes (no license check) | Yes | Linux-only shops | | TightVNC | Yes | Yes | Legacy Windows | | UltraVNC | Yes (free) | Source available | Single PC remote control | | NoMachine (NX) | Yes (perpetual offline option) | No | High-performance remote desktop | | Apache Guacamole | Yes (self-hosted) | Yes | Web-based gateway | realvnc offline license key

These alternatives have trade-offs (fewer features, less polish, no official support), but they are truly free and offline from day one.

For large offline networks (e.g., factory floor with 100 machines):

Cause: Firewall blocking port 7070 or 5900 on the license server machine.
Fix: On the license server, open inbound TCP 7070. On clients, ensure they can ping the server’s IP. If you need to activate RealVNC on machines

A RealVNC offline license key (also known as a "disconnected license" or "offline activation key") is a specialized product key that allows you to activate RealVNC software on a computer or server that has no internet access. Unlike standard online activation, which communicates directly with RealVNC’s licensing servers, offline activation relies on a manual, file-based process.

Cause: The request file and response file have different machine IDs. This happens if you changed hardware (NIC, motherboard) after generating the request.

Fix: Re-run the request generation on the target machine and repeat the offline activation process. Do not try to reuse old response files. If you cannot obtain a genuine offline key

How does RealVNC’s offline approach compare to competitors?

| Feature | RealVNC Offline | TeamViewer (LAN only) | AnyDesk | TightVNC (free) | |---------|----------------|------------------------|---------|------------------| | Offline activation | ✅ Yes (file-based) | ❌ No (requires periodic online) | ❌ No | ✅ N/A (no license) | | Enterprise support | ✅ Full | Limited | Limited | ❌ None | | Hardware binding | ✅ Strong | Weak (user-based) | Medium | N/A | | Price (per seat/year) | ~$50-150 | ~$200+ | ~$80 | Free (no support) |

RealVNC is the preferred choice for highly regulated industries because the offline key process is auditable and cryptographically secure.
