Seacad 5.1 May 2026

SeaCAD 5.1 is a CAD package for marine design (assumed: hulls, interiors, systems). This guide covers installation, workspace, core workflows (hull modeling, hydrostatics, structural framing, surface fairing), file management, export formats, common troubleshooting, and keyboard shortcuts.

Using methods like Holtrop-Mennen, Savitsky (for planing hulls), and Series 64, SeaCad 5.1 estimates:

This module is the industry gold standard. SeaCad 5.1 can compute: seacad 5.1

Chapter 1: Setting Up Your First Hull in SeaCAD 5.1

  • Creating Stations: Use the Hull > Create Stations command. Enter 21 stations (0 to 20) with custom spacing. Click "Generate Fair Curve."
  • Editing the Hull Surface: Activate the Control Point Editor (Shortcut: Ctrl+E). Drag points in Plan, Profile, or Body Plan views. Watch the Curvature Comb display for smooth transitions.
  • Running Hydrostatics: Navigate to Analysis > Hydrostatics. Set the waterline at the design draft. Click Calculate – the results will display in a new report window. You can export this report as a CSV or PDF.

  • Even stable software has quirks. Here are the top 5 issues reported by SeaCad 5.1 users and their fixes: SeaCAD 5

    | Issue | Diagnosis | Solution | |-------|-----------|----------| | Slow 3D rotation | OpenGL software rendering | Update graphics driver; disable Windows “Hardware acceleration” | | Crash on “Calculate KN” | Corrupted load case | Rebuild the load case in a new .hdb file | | Cannot save .msd file | User permission error | Run SeaCad as Admin; check %PROGRAMDATA%\SeaCad rights | | Printer outputs blank pages | Default paper size mismatch | Set plotter to “ISO A1” or “ANSI D” before plotting | | Floating license server not found | IPv6 conflict | Force IPv4 in licenses.ini: USE_IPV6=0 |

Also, disable Windows’ “Focus Assist” and “Game Mode” – they interfere with real-time fairing refreshes. Creating Stations: Use the Hull > Create Stations

The vessel had a large deckhouse. SeaCad 5.1’s Wind Heeling Moment (WHM) wizard, updated in 5.1 to include ABS’s 2023 criteria, flagged a marginal GMt (metacentric height) of 0.45m. The designer increased beam by 0.3m, and SeaCad instantly recalculated all 24 load conditions.
