In the sprawling history of video games based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary works, certain titles shine as beacons of cooperative action-RPG excellence. While the Shadow of Mordor series gets the headlines for its Nemesis system, and Return to Moria handles survival crafting, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North (2011) remains a cult classic for fans of side-by-side, couch co-op adventure.
Thanks to dedicated preservationists in the PC gaming community, this title has found a second life. Today, we are diving deep into the DODI Repack version of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North—why it matters, how to get it running on modern hardware, and why it still deserves your time over a decade later.
The original retail version of War in the North was pulled from Steam and other digital storefronts in 2016 due to expiring licensing agreements (a common fate for licensed games). Consequently, you cannot buy it officially anymore.
This is where the DODI Repack comes in.
Who is DODI?
DODI is a renowned figure in the PC game preservation scene, known for creating high-quality repacks. A “repack” is a compressed, installer-ready version of a game that has been cracked (by groups like Codex or Razor1911) but compressed significantly for easier download.

The Premise: While the Fellowship of the Ring marches south, a separate war rages in the northern territories of Middle-earth. You control one of three heroes:
