Cons:

For 99% of users, OpenXTS is a fascinating lab project, not a daily-driver solution. xts5000 firmware

The XTS5000 has gone through several major hardware and software revisions. You will see version numbers like Rxx.xx.xx.

Compatibility Note: If you are using a very old computer with DOS-based programming tools, you will need older firmware. Modern CPS runs on Windows, but "tuning" features for the XTS5000 (specifically the alignment tools) sometimes require older "tuner" software that may not run on Windows 10/11. You cannot update an XTS5000 using standard CPS

Firmware alone is useless without the correct Flashcode – a 15-character hexadecimal string (e.g., 500008-000000-4) stored in the radio’s memory.

Common Feature Bits (H38, Q52, etc.)

Note: Changing a flashcode requires a separate tool (Depot or Lab RSS) and is not part of a normal firmware update.
