The Plot: Kyotaro, a brooding edgelord, fantasizes about murdering his popular classmate, Anna. But once he actually talks to her, he realizes she is a weird, goofy, hungry giantess, and he falls in love. Why it’s #1: Do not judge it by the first two episodes (where the MC is cringey). This is the most realistic, wholesome, and beautifully paced romance in modern anime. The way the two slowly become friends, then lovers, feels earned. Season 2 is a masterclass in romantic tension.
